Community Supported Agriculture - Monona pickup

Anyone looking for a CSA pickup in Monona?  Here is one option (information provided by Brie Chapa):

• Duration: 22 Weeks; June - Early November
• Half Share: $275 ($12.50/wk)
• Full Share: $500 ($22.70/wk)
• All organic produce
• Sign-up Form (You'll have to write in Monona as we aren't yet listed as a drop site)
• Pick-up Day: Still in discussion - likely a weekday between 3:30pm - 7pm. 
• Please mail your check and sign-up form directly to the address listed on the sign-up sheet.

 So here's why we chose Drumlin, a farm we had never heard of before. 

• They can some of their products (salsa, pickles, etc.) On lighter weeks for produce, they include some of their homemade canned goods in their share baskets.This is not customary for CSAs.
• They make tamales. Once or twice (my fingers are crossed for twice) they include a pack of homemade tamales in their share baskets. This is obviously not typical for CSAs around here.
• They sell their produce at Willy Street Coop and it is used at Alchemy. Both trustworthy sites for us as we considered how do we trust the produce will be good.
• Produce is harvested the morning of the drop off.
• The farm is within driving distance if we ever wanted to take our kiddos out there.
• They are making efforts to directly connect with under-served CSA communities by hosting a drop site at a local Latino community program.
• Did I mention the tamales?

Brush Collection and Yard Waste Information

Yard Waste Site Opens for the Season

Time: 7:00 AM

Location: Public Works Garage, Edna Taylor Parkway (between Femrite Dr. and East Broadway)

The City's free yard waste disposal site opens today for the season.  The site accepts grass clippings and yard waste.  Brush is not accepted.

The site is open everyday, 24 hours per day.

Grass clippings...mulch them into your lawn for free fertilizer.  Also, make the first pass with the mower discharge into your yard (not street), this will help keep clippings out of the storm water (and lakes).  good read on bag or mulch.

April Brush Collection Delayed Two Weeks

Due to the amount of snow still on the ground, the City has delayed the April brush collection by two weeks.  The new schedule is as follows:

District 1:  April 15-29

District 2:  April 22-26

District 3:  April 29-May 3

District 4:  May 6-10

All brush must be placed at the curb by 7:00 am on the Monday of collection week.  While crews will be collecting all week, they will not return to a street once they have collected from it.

Brush collection is a free service provided to residents.  The service is only for brush trimmed and collected by the homeowner.  Brush trimmed by a contractor must be disposed of by the contractor.

The City's free yard waste site, located at the Public Works Garage on Edna Taylor Parkway (between Femrite Dr. and East Broadway), opens on Monday, April 8.  The site accepts grass clippings and yard waste, but brush is not allowed.  The site is open 24 hours per day, everyday.

Public Works crews will also do spring leaf collection from April 15-May 10.  Residents can rake their leaves to the curb anytime during this time period, and they will be collected by the vacuum trucks. 

Crews will also begin sweeping streets on April 8 to remove the winter salt and road debris.
