Old Business
LPFM Update.
Mr. Hagen reported that the FCC announced that in October 2013, they will open a window for LPFM
applications. Mr. Hagen reviewed the LPFM discussions in Monona over the past four years.
Commissioner Davis said that four years was fairly quick for the FCC to get through their backlog. AM
daytime stations and 2nd and 3rd adjacent FM stations both fought LPFM followed by a fight between
urban and rural interests. Mr. Hagen noted that the city will apply, and will need to get a license, before
it can build a station.
AT&T Uverse Update
Mr. Hagen reported that he had contacted AT&T about setting up an Uverse connection, and the cites IT
service had begun to search for the equipment needed to make the connection. AT&T reported it would
take about six weeks for them to install the connection, which would make mid-January a likely start.
MUFN Connection -Update
Mr. Hagen reported that the approved capital budget had funding to do the first phase of the MUFN
connection. This would include connecting City Hall, the Library and the Community Center. The
MUFN administration agreed to waive any fees for the first two years, since the City had just renewed a 2
year contract for internet service, before discussion began with MUFN. A second phase, connecting other
buildings, would be investigated for late 2013 or early 2014.
